Mandelic acid is a chemical exfoliant, meaning it removes layers of debris through a reaction with the skin (rather than exfoliating via abrasive scrubs). By dissolving skin cells, mandelic acid works to increase cell turnover, reducing the look of skin damage or acne. Exfoliated skin is bright skin and mandelic acid goes a step further, strengthening the skin so it stays bright with continued use. The acid works itself deep into pores, penetrating deeper than other acids often used on blemish-prone skin.
Increased cell turnover and exfoliating properties means the acid reduces the look of dark marks and sun damage.
Niacinamide helps build keratin, a type of protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy.
Niacinamide can help your skin grow a ceramide (lipid) barrier, which can, in turn, help retain moisture. This is beneficial for all skin types, especially if you have eczema or mature skin.
It reduces inflammation, which may help ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Keeping skin smooth and moisturized may have a secondary benefit — a natural reduction in pore size over time. The benefits of moisture retention aren’t just for those with dry skin types. Niacinamide can also help regulate the amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce and prevent your glands from going into overdrive.
Niacinamide can concurrently rebuild healthy skin cells while also protecting them from damage caused by ultraviolet rays. Some research has found 5 percent niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. Benefits were seen after four weeks, but not beyond two months. This benefit may be due to increased collagen production.
Research has also found that the same concentration was helpful in reducing some signs of sun damage that come with aging. This includes fine lines and wrinkles. Niacinamide helps build cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins.
Resveratrol helps protect skin's surface, interrupts and helps rebuff negative environmental influences, and brightens a tired-looking complexion. It also has significant skin-calming properties that may help minimize the look of redness.
Grapeseed Oil (Vitis Vinifera)
Grapeseed Oil is a powerhouse ingredient. It has the properties to moisturize, lighten dark circles, fade scars, tighten skin, prevent sun damage, and improve the overall elasticity and health of the skin.
Pomegranate Seed Oil (Punica Granatum)
Rich in antioxidants, like vitamin C, pomegranate seed oil also contains punicic acid, an anti-inflammatory omega-5 fatty acid, not to mention bunches of bioflavonoids. A natural sunblock, bioflavonoids fight free radicals and shield your skin from sun damage, delaying visible signs of aging.
It's been found to improve skin brightness, sort uneven skin tone, up plumpness, minimize enlarged pores, boost firmness, smooth out texture and lessen fine lines. In short, it offers all the same plus points as retinol – but with less risk of irritation.
Black Cumin Seed Oil (Nigelle Sativa)
With its moisture-retaining qualities and antioxidant properties, black cumin seed oil keeps skin elastic and fights damaging free radicals that cause wrinkles and fine lines. It tames redness and soothes irritation. Black cumin seed oil has excellent anti-inflammatory properties.
