If you don’t have retinol in your skincare routine, do you even care about your skin?
Retinol has been talked about for years. What is so great about this vitamin A derivative? Keep
reading to learn about all the difference it can make in your skin.
Retinols have been on the market for a long time now. We’ve asked many people what their
skincare goals were for 2023 and most people said that they are focusing on making their skin
look and feel more youthful. When we talk about an ingredient that makes all the difference,
retinols are that ingredient.
What is retinol?
Retinol is an over the counter derivative of vitamin. This ingredient is used topically in skincare
to improve signs of skin aging but can also help with acne. Retinol has an exfoliating effect on
the skin which improves texture and tone. It also works by going into the dermis and boosting
collagen and elastin production which leads to more plump looking skin. Retinols are also
known to help against free radical damage.
Helps target:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Pigmentation
- Acne
How to use retinols safely?
Retinols are a very active ingredient. When used properly you can see benefits in no time at all.
But to get the best results, it’s important to understand how to use your retinol. Depending on
the type you can begin using it every day if it’s a lower percentage. It also depends on how it is
formulated. My recommendation when using a retinol is to start by using it every other day. It
is important to build your skins tolerance up or you can sensitize your skin and cause damage. It
is also important to use retinol at night as it increases sun sensitivity.
*People who use retinols commonly experience dry and irritated skin, especially after using a
new product. Redness, itchiness and peeling skin can occur.
