A Protein Shake for Your Skin!

Don't you hate walking into a store knowing that you need something but know nothing about that thing. That thing being your skin... your skin is freaking out because we're still in a pandemic, stressors are high & work pressure is back on. Or your skin is damaged and desperate for help from all the sun bathing you did over the summer because work was shut down. Hoping we can turn this place into a search bar for you guys so you do not feel lost walking into our spa. Our estheticians are fully trained and educated in all things Dermalogica & Aveda. Each retail guest that comes in searching for skin care, typically receives a mini skin consultation with questions like; What's your skin care regimen currently? What are your top 3 concerns about your skin? & What are your likes and dislikes about your skin currently? Each of these questions allow us to dissect your skin, priorities, and timeline to fix the concerns. We always have your best interest in mind, and truly want you to love the products that we recommend. Worse case scenario you don't like your products... don't freak out! We have a two week exchange policy that allows you to try your products and decide whether or not they are for you. So let's dive into an ingredient featured in some of Dermalogica's products called...
Before you get drifted away in deep thought... I'll breakdown what a peptide even is. (mom talk) Peptides are like Legos. A chain of Legos that make up what's called a protein. The most vital protein within your skin is collagen. Like proteins, peptides are chains of two or more amino acids held together by peptide bonds. The term oligopeptide is used to refer to a peptide. Only with fewer members of amino acids as opposed to a polypeptide, which is a peptide comprised of several amino acids. These short chains are able to penetrate the top layer of the skin giving all the anti aging benefits such as; stimulating collagen production, helps fight fine lines and wrinkles all the while brightening the skin. Does that help a little bit? A similar but more intense ingredient like retinol or a renoid. "Retinoids are a class of compounds derived from vitamin A, which is commonly used in skincare," says Dr. Mahto. Which are designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation after 12 weeks of use. While retinoids remain the wrinkle-fighting gold standard, if your skin doesn't vibe with them, peptides are a great replacement. Oligopeptides are becoming the more preferred ingredient because they have fewer side effects compared to retinoids. Most of us want smoother and firmer skin, so most of us can benefit from oligopeptides! As we age our collagen and elastin and many other things slow down and don't replenish as fast as we break them down. This ingredient is for everyone and can be taken a preventative measures as well. There's nothin' to lose, right?!
  1. Reduced wrinkles: Collagen can plump the skin and lips. And when our skin is firmer and plumper, wrinkles and fine lines will be less visible.
  2. Increase elasticitypeptides also make up elastin fibers, also a type of protein. These fibers make skin look firmer and tauter.
  3. Calm inflammation: Peptides can help ease inflammation, repair damaged skin and even out skin tone.

You’ll want to choose a product with oligopeptide in the form of a serum or a moisturizer! Something that has prolonged contact with your skin. A cleanser, for example, won’t be as effective because it’s rinsed off
