Benefits of Waxing

Well it looks like Summer 2021 is in business! Places are open, beaches are full and you know what that means… a lot less clothes. Now I’m not going to tear a strip off you if you’ve left the grooming to the last minute, there hasn’t been much reason not to. But here’s the big question, are you going to shave or wax? Well, before you decide let me talk to you a little about the benefits of waxing.

WHAT IS WAXING?

Waxing is a process of hair removal that originated in Egypt which uses wax and cloth strips to remove hair from the body. Wax is applied and the wax strip is placed on top, then the technician pulls the strip and voila your hair is pulled out!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WAXING?

There are many benefits to waxing, hair removal being just 1 of them!

Waxing exfoliates your skin. When we apply wax to your skin and remove it, the wax peels away dead skin cells that are on the surface, making your skin feel smoother. We also recommend exfoliation in between waxes to keep your skin smooth, clear the follicles and prevent ingrown hairs!

Waxing is a better option when it comes to preventing ingrown hairs as well. Everyone has experienced an ingrown hair be it mild or severe. And man can it be painful! An ingrown hair is when grows down into the skin as opposed to up and out of the follicle, which created a bump in the skin. When you shave, the sharp end of the hair is more likely to grow back into the skin because the hair isn’t pulled right out.

Waxing lasts longer and the hair comes back thinner! When I shave, I must do it way more often. I feel like its every few days in fact. We recommend waxing every 4-6 weeks. The hair comes back thinner since it is the new hair growing and not the root of the follicle. The more often and longer you wax, the less hair that grows back in time.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR WAXING APPOINTMENT

• Exfoliate the day before your appointment.

• Don’t apply body lotion on the day of your appointment.

• If you are worried about pain, take one Advil an hour before your appointment.

• Avoid any hot treatments for 24 hours post-waxing (bath, sauna, steamer, tanning bed).

• Ensure your hair is ¼ to ½ inch long to be able to wax it. If hair is too short it won’t come out.

PFB Vanish gently exfoliates with salicylic and glycolic acids to lift ingrown hairs above the skin line. This soothing treatment reduces redness and irritation.

So, we talked about how waxing exfoliates but it is also important to keep up with exfoliation in between waxes. We recommend exfoliating a few days after waxing treatment (depending on your sensitivity) with Dermalogica’s Thermafoliant Body Scrub. Exfoliate, energize and brighten dull skin with this dual-action body exfoliant. Indian Bamboo Stem physically exfoliates to refine skin texture and brighten tone.
